Dr. Loui Olivas, a fourth-generation native Phoenician, joined Arizona State University (ASU) in 1979 as the assistant director of the Center for Executive Development and served as the director from 1982-86. Dr. Olivas served as the assistant vice president for academic affairs at ASU for 17 years until his appointment in 2006 to the position of assistant vice president for education partnerships.
Edward J. Aguirre Jr., a loving son, brother, tío, and grandson, passed away on May 3, 2022, at the age of 26. Born in Tucson, Edward was raised in the communities of Hayden and Winkelman. He enrolled into the Central Arizona College and Northern Arizona University concurrent enrollment program and received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2018. His nursing career began at the Banner Casa Grande Medical Center as a Medical ICU Nurse. Edward had a passion for cardiothoracics and was overjoyed when he landed a job in Phoenix as a Cardiothoracic ICU nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center.

Gloria Martinez-Granados is a Phoenix, Arizona based artist. Born in Guanajuato, Mexico she migrated to the United States of America with her family at 8 years old. Gloria is a multimedia artist creating with indigenous practices, adding a contemporary approach by including printmaking, assemblage, installation, and performance to the more traditional arts of beadwork and weaving. Through this process, she develops themes around identity, dreams, place, home, and land. This merges with her experience growing up undocumented in the United States and the legal limbo she lives day to day as a DACAmented person.
Revolutionary, outspoken, and dedicated, are all words that describe the essence of Jeanine Bashir. Her devotion to children and woman’s issues has been the driving force behind her work in the community. Her professional career has included working with various organizations that serve the community & government sector alike.
In 1999 Maria founded the organization’s Arizona-based community health programs – reaching over 45,000 Hispanic and refugee families. Maria used a cultural lens to co-author and implement curriculums on nutrition, oral health, chronic disease prevention and management, and more.
Ricardo Correa, M.D., Ed. D., F.A.C.E., F.A.C.P., F.A.C.M.Q. is an Associate Professor of Medicine, the Program Director for Endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism fellowship and the director for diversity in Graduate Medical Education at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Staff Clinician and Researcher at Phoenix V.A.M.C. and Health Equity Fellowship Director for Creighton School of Medicine in Phoenix.
Sarah is a Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion practitioner. She works to build healthy communities where all members can thrive. Sarah brings her lived experience as a Latina and community leader to her projects, enabling an authentic connection to those she serves.
