Janet Murguía is the President and CEO of UnidosUS (formerly National Council of La Raza). A native of Kansas City, Kansas, Janet grew up in the Argentine district of the city where her parents taught her the value of hard work and the importance of giving back. She earned three degrees from Kansas University: B.S. in Journalism, B.A. in Spanish, and a J.D. from the School of Law.
Her career in Washington began as legislative counsel to former Kansas Congressman Jim Slattery, ultimately working her way to serving as a deputy assistant to President Bill Clinton providing strategic and legislative advice to the president.
Her numerous accolades include being featured in the Washingtonian’s 100 Most Powerful Women in Washington; Nonprofit Times’ Power and Influence Top 50; and Newsweek’s Third Annual Women and Leadership issue.
Murguía currently serves as a board member of the Independent Sector, a coalition of leading nonprofits, foundations and corporations committed to connecting, informing and advocating on behalf of the nonprofit and philanthropic community; a board member of the Merrill Lynch Diversity & Inclusion Council; and she serves as an executive committee member of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights.
