Lena Spotleson

Lena Spotleson is a community leader, youth mentor, and cancer survivorship advocate whose work has centered on empowering young people and uplifting families across Arizona. As Director of Community Basketball for the Phoenix Suns/Phoenix Mercury Foundation, Lena leads initiatives that connect youth and families with mentorship, wellness, education, and community resources through sports-based programming.

Lena's commitment to mentorship extends more than two decades, including a 20-year career coaching high school basketball. Throughout her time on the court, she became known not only for developing student-athletes, but for helping young people build confidence, discipline, resilience, and leadership skills that extend far beyond sports. Her leadership and service have also included involvement with organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Latinos Contra El Cancer, and the University of Arizona Cancer Center Community Advisory Board.

As a Stage 4 cancer survivor, Lena has transformed her personal journey into a lifelong commitment to advocacy and service. Through fundraising, public speaking, mentorship, awareness campaigns, and community outreach, she has worked to increase cancer awareness and support for patients and families, particularly within Latino communities. A graduate of Valle del Sol's Hispanic Leadership Institute Class of 1995, Lena's life and career reflect a deep belief in the power of mentorship, community, and turning personal challenges into opportunities to lift others.
